Grouse Grind
What is it?
The Grouse Grind is a 2.9km (1.8miles) trail up Grouse mountain, near
Vancouver, Canada. The summit is 1127 meters above sea level and the
gradient is an average 38%, with a maximum of 45%!

My Climb
I swiped my timer chip at the bottom then set off. The climb is
split into four sections and the end of each quarter is marked. I
ran the first quarter which did not seem too steep and I ran all of this.
By the second quarter I realised I had probably set off too fast and so I
had to slow to a fast walk. The third quarter felt the steepest and
I felt like I was really slowing down. There were a lot of big steps
in this section so it was hard to get into a rhythm. I managed to
half run, half walk the final section and finished in 37 minutes, which
was the fastest time of the day when I left the mountain.
The average time for my age group
(20-29) last year was 00:53:05 so my aim was to finish in about 50
minutes. I was obviously very pleased to have finished in 37
minutes.
